Dr. Rob van der Veen
Ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon
Trained in the Netherlands, Dr. van der Veen currently practices in Barcelona (Spain) and Utrecht (the Netherlands). He holds a medical license in both countries and is an member of the leading ophthalmology and oculoplastic societies:

Academic and scientific background
Dr. van der Veen holds a postdoctoral degree in ophthalmology and maintains an active scientific career. He regularly presents his work at national and international conferences and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles.
Professional career
Dr. van der Veen graduated in Medicine from Maastricht University (the Netherlands) and completed clinical rotations at the Aruba Eye Institute (Dutch Caribbean) and Gold Coast Hospital (Australia). He was selected to pursue his PhD at the Department of Ophthalmology of Maastricht University Medical Center, resulting in his doctoral thesis “Macular pigment in the healthy and diseased retina”, in collaboration with the University of Manchester (UK) and University Hospital Bonn (Germany).
He completed his Ophthalmology residency at Maastricht University Medical Center, where he developed a strong early interest in orbital and oculoplastic surgery. This commitment earned him a clinical fellowship at the Orbital Center of Amsterdam University Medical Center, internationally recognized as a reference center for thyroid eye disease and complex orbital pathology.
After completing his subspecialty training, he worked as an orbital and oculoplastic surgeon at Utrecht University Medical Center and founded his private practice, OCULOPLASTIC SURGERY by DR. ROB VAN DER VEEN, which received the highest national rating for eyelid surgery in the Netherlands one year after its foundation, according to Elsevier magazine.
In 2019, he expanded his clinical activity by moving to Spain and starting as a senior oculoplastic and orbital surgeon at Hospital Moisès Broggi (Barcelona), the largest non-academic hospital on the Iberian Peninsula, and collaborated as an orbital surgeon with Bellvitge University Hospital.
Subsequently, Dr. van der Veen further dedicated himself to cosmetic oculoplastic surgery in Barcelona and by visiting various other profesionals, amongst which the renowned Prof. Dr. Morris Hartstein in Tel Aviv, Israel. During this period, he focused on advanced techniques for blepharoplasty and facial lipofilling.
Today, he practices exclusively in the private sector, with clinics in Barcelona and Utrecht, offering bespoke eyelid and eyebrow procedures in both countries.
Philosophy of care
Dr. van der Veen performs meticulous blepharoplasties and brow repositioning procedures for both men and women. Since establishing his practice in 2021, he has treated patients from across the Netherlands, Spain and other European and non-European countries, traveling to be treated by him, reflecting the international character of his practice.
His patient base includes both younger individuals seeking to correct subtle features that make them look tired, as well as patients pursuing comprehensive rejuvenation of the eyelids and face. He is also proud to treat many high-level professionals from various fields, as well as an increasing number of fellow physicians seeking out his care.
While Dr. van der Veen enjoys sharing his work, protecting patient privacy is a core principle of Dr. van der Veen’s practice. For this reason, most patient images are cropped to the periocular area.
Drawing on years of experience in academic hospitals, Dr. van der Veen combines the best surgical approaches to deliver optimal aesthetic and functional results—always using minimally invasive techniques tailored to each individual patient.
