Brow Lift

Rejuvenate Your Eyes by Correcting Drooping Eyebrows

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a surgical designed to elevate or, more precisely, reposition eyebrows that have descended over time, either partially or completely. This intervention is common in oculoplastic surgery, as it can restore a younger, more rested appearance to the face. It is especially beneficial in cases where the drooping of the outer eyebrow creates a sad look, or when the drooping of the inner eyebrow contributes to a serious or “angry” appearance. The type of procedure chosen depends on the cause of the brow droop and the patient’s aesthetic and surgical preferences. Correcting age-related drooping differs from treating brow drooping caused by trauma or medical conditions, such as facial nerve paralysis.

Why consider a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is ideal for those wishing to correct drooping eyebrows that affect facial expression and the youthful appearance of the face. It is often combined with upper eyelid blepharoplasty, as lifting the brows can enhance the results of eyelid surgery, providing a more harmonious and long-lasting rejuvenation of the periocular and forehead area. Untreated brow drooping can diminish the aesthetic effect of upper eyelid surgery and may lead to unsatisfactory results.

In mild cases, non-surgical options such as Botox© or dermal fillers may complement eyelid procedures, achieving a natural and effective lift.

How is a Brow Lift performed?

There are several techniques, ranging from non-surgical to more complex surgical approaches:

Botox© for Brow Lift

A non-surgical option that slightly lifts the brows by weakening the muscles that pull them down. Effects typically last 3–6 months. Combined with dermal fillers, results can be more pronounced.

Lateral Brow Lift

Targets the outer edge of the eyebrow to open the eyes and reposition the brow naturally. Performed through a small incision at the outer brow or along the hairline. Ideal for patients with significant lateral brow sagging.

Internal Brow Fixation (during Upper Blepharoplasty)

Performed through the same incision as upper eyelid surgery, the brow is fixed in a new position without external scars. This approach can subtly rejuvenate the eyelid area and support mild lateral brow drooping.

Direct Brow Lift

Removes skin and subcutaneous tissue above the eyebrow for a permanent lift. Best for severe drooping or heavy brows. The scar is visible but usually concealed in the natural forehead-to-brow transition.

Endoscopic or temporal Brow Lift

Small incisions in the scalp, often using an endoscope, allow precise lifting of the brow with minimal visible scarring. Ideal for mild to moderate brow droop, with natural, long-lasting results with regard to brow position and smoothening out forehead lines. Recovery typically takes 2 weeks.

Type of anesthesia

Depends on the technique and additional procedures. Direct brow lifts may be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation, while endoscopic or temporal lifts may require general anesthesia.

Preoperative recommendations

To achieve the best possible results, it is important to follow certain recommendations before surgery:

Discontinuation of anticoagulants: If you are taking blood-thinning medications, it is crucial to stop them several days before the procedure, always under medical supervision. The required washout period varies depending on the medication, so it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions.

Adequate rest: Avoid physical activity and sleep with your head slightly elevated during the first week, as this helps reduce postoperative swelling and the risk of significant bruising.

Healthy diet: Aim for a varied, balanced diet free of ultra-processed products. If you wish, we can arrange a video consultation with our nutrition specialist.

Quit smoking: It is recommended to stop smoking at least a few weeks before surgery. Smoking interferes with healing and increases the risk of complications.

Postoperative care

  • Rest and limited activity: Avoid intense physical activity, lifting heavy objects, or performing household chores for at least 5–7 days. Physical exertion increases blood pressure and may cause bleeding or bruising that can negatively affect results.
  • Cold compresses: During the first 72 hours, applying cold compresses to the eyelids helps reduce swelling and bruising. It is recommended to do this for several minutes every hour.
  • Antibiotic ointment: Your surgeon will prescribe an antibiotic ointment that should be applied twice daily to the surgical wounds for the first 7 to 10 days.

Recovery and postoperative care

Recovery from a brow lift varies depending on the technique used. In general, patients may experience some swelling and bruising, but most can resume daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the procedure performed. During the recovery process, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions to ensure proper healing and achieve the best possible results.
